Best Milky Toners
Toners have come a long way and one of the favourite editions to the toner family is milky toners. The debate still goes on should you use a toner, milky toners will bring a different experience and a skin savior for normal, combination and dry skin types. Sensitive and dehydrated skin conditions will love the silky gentle approach which is unique to a milky toner.
What is a milky toner?
One of the quickest ways to instantly replenish moisture and hydration in the skin, often packed with barrier-identical ingredients to support and strengthen the skin's first line of defense. Milky toners have a serum-like texture, are light in consistency, and include supercharged skin-loving ingredients replacing lost moisture that could have been stripped from cleansing or environmental aggressions.
What is the best way to apply milky toner?
I recommend you apply with your hands as they are more serum like, however, if you like the feeling of a cotton pad sweeping over the face for freshness then you can do this too just be sure to damp the cotton pads as they will act like sponges and absorb the toner.
What is the difference between a toner and a milky toner?
The toner category has become blurred leaving many people wondering if we should be using a toner and what are the added benefits to the skin. One thing is for sure the claim of being an integral part of cleansing the skin is no longer true and thankfully we have gotten past the myth that toners could close open pores. A milky to cleanse the skin, your toner is there to replenish lost moisture and hydration either from cleansing or environmental aggressions. Due to their consistency, they are more serum-like and less liquid than typical toners.
Why should I use a milky toner?
Due to their ability to flood the skin with hydration and moisture if you have dehydrated, thirsty, dry, and sensitive skin milky toners will be a savior for you. Delivering instant softness, suppleness, and hydration.
What is the difference between a milky toner and an essence?
This is where the lines become really blurred, my expert opinion is you do not need both, milky toners are leaning more towards an essence and less toner. Save yourself some money and time and just use one or the other.
My favourite Milky Toners:
Byoma Hydrating Milky Toner,
I love everything about this formula, it is a gorgeous silky fine texture that can be applied with damp cotton wool or your fingertips, I highly recommend you apply it with your hands. The star and unique Barrier Lipid Complex with polyglutamic acid can ensure the skin is instantly comforted, hydrated, moisturized, and soothed. Perfect for dry, dehydrated, and sensitive skin. It helps support the skin barrier from daily aggression, reduces water loss from the skin's surface layers, and provides instant hydration.
Paula’s Choice Calm Nourishing Milky Toner, stepping up the moisture is easy with a milky toner, Calm Nourishing Toner is remarkably similar in texture to an essence. It is a step up from Byoma so if you have drier skin, you will appreciate the essence serum-like formula. This skin-replenishing moisture-boosting toner helps to support the skin's microbiome which helps to heal and controls inflammation so perfect for sensitive skin. With added skin soothers not only is this perfect for dry skin but stressed, sensitized skin will appreciate this comforting formula to also shield the skin from day-to-day irritants.
Paula’s Choice Resist Anti-Aging Replenishing Toner, with a very similar texture Resist Anti-Aging Replenishing Toner is the big sister of Nourishing Milky Toner with added moisture magnets and intense hydrators. If you have a thirsty, dry skin with no sensitivity Resist Anti-Aging Replenishing Toner is going to be a step in your skin routine that make a huge difference. With omegas, hyaluronic acid and phospholipids to bring instant hydration and pull in moisture so the skin feels instantly replenished and hydrated.
Dr Jart+ Ceramidin™ Skin Barrier Serum Toner, the richest of them all and only just is my favourite. I would use this all year round, it is so good and when it comes to using this daily, I did not use an essence. Everything about this is divine, loaded with ceramides, panthenol (vitamin b5) and glycerin which leaves the skin glowing with hydration and moisture. Your skin will feel instantly hydrated, and recharged and the skin barrier stronger.
The Ordinary Saccharomyces Ferment 30% Milky Toner, is beautiful, what makes this so effective and kind to the skin is it’s a non-acid exfoliating toner so perfect to slot into your routine and won’t cause any sun sensitivity like other exfoliating acid products. Saccharomyces Ferment 30% Milky Toner is great for smoothing skin texture, reducing the appearance of pores, and increasing hydration. This milky toner is very unique and contains 30% saccharomyces ferment, which comes from yeast fermentation combined with 3% fermented N-acetylglucosamine (NAG). NAG is a skin-identical ingredient that can stimulate the skin's natural production of hyaluronic acid, smooths the skin texture whilst promoting a stronger skin barrier.
